Goodluck to pay morale-boosting visit to Eagles in Brazil if the beat France

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan is to pay a moral boosting visit to Nigeria's Super Eagles in Brazil flying out today to watch them play in the quarter finals if they beat face France in their second round tie taking place tomorrow.

On Monday, the Eagles could be on the verge of creating history but qualifying for the quarter finals of the World Cup for the first time ever. To do that though, they have to get past France, who have been one of the teams of the tournament so far, picking up all nine points in their group.

Nigeria have only played France at senior international level once, when the two teams faced each other in a friendly game at the Parc de France on June 2 2009, which the Eagles won 1-0.  Team captain Joseph Yobo said that with the additional incentive from the president, the players will be even more motivated to beat them tomorrow and reach the quarter finals for the first time.

Yobo said: "He assured us when he called that he's behind us and if we beat France and qualify for the quarter-final, he will come and visit us and watch the next game. That's a very big motivation for us to know that the president will come and visit us.

"It's better than money and we are determined to go there and fight and give our best. It's a morale booster."

Tomorrow's game kicks off at 5pm Nigerian and GMT  time at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasilia.  Midfielder Mikel Obi said the players are all happy and thinking their opponents.
